Happy Birthday (and Anniversary) to Me!

This is a post from Scooterama, the Scottinator, Scottola, Scooterific, Sco...You get the point. As I have previously mentioned, from time to time, I break into the ultra-secure, super-password encoded blog and post a little something that the masses needs to know about.

Today I turned 40. In the weeks that lead up to the big day, I dreaded it. In fact, I refused to think about it. For some reason, it bugged me that I was turning 40. Not really, really bugged me...just sort of like a little fly that keeps flying around your face and you keep trying to whack it, but in the end, you just look like a moron with randomly flailing arms. Sort of like this.

So anyway, I had to face the music today. I'm no longer "about to turn 40", I am now the big 4-0. As I get older, birthdays seem just like any other day, but I digress...Anyway, the day started out with French toast, eggs, and mandarin oranges. Then, I opened a present. There was only one present because I already purchased myself a birthday present about a month ago. The self-purchased present was a new iPhone, which i love! So my present was wrapped in brown paper and decorated with "Art by Megan" As if that wasn't enough by itself! Here is what it looked like...
Megan requested that I open it carefully so she could work on the artwork more during the day and show me later. So I complied with the specific instructions from my 6 year old boss. I carefully opened the wrapper to unveil a new scooter so I can cruise with the kiddos when they want to go scootering around the neighborhood. I am really excited about it, of course, I will not be attempting any "ESPN Xtreme" style scootering. Because I could break a hip, or something.

So anyway, it was a pretty good start to the day, I must admit! I went to work and had a pretty good day. I had a meeting for the School District from 4 to 5:30, which went fairly well. We have a tradition in our family: The birthday person gets to select where we go to dinner. Yesterday, Debbie asked me where I wanted to go for dinner. I looked around the kitchen table and saw my beautiful kids and wife, who I don't get to spend enough time with. I have heard Josh say several times that he wanted to go to Johns Incredible Pizza. If you are not familiar with this business, it is like Chuck E. Cheese's on steroids...raging, gigantic steroids. Despite the name, the pizza is not incredible. It is decent, but not incredible. However, the look on my children's faces while riding on the "Incredible Express Roller Coaster" and the "Twister", now that is incredible.

All in all, I had a great day surrounded by my gorgeous wife and kids. I can't ask for anything more.

Now I know what you're saying..."Uh, Scoooterama, what about the 'Anniversary' part that you mentioned in the title?" Well, let me take you back a decade. I was about 35 pounds lighter, had several thousand more hairs on the crown region of my head, and I was dating a drop-dead gorgeous school teacher woman who I was head-over-heels in love with. I had long since realized that I could not and did not want to live life without her. She lights up a room when she walks into it and I was lucky to be dating such a kind, caring piece of eye candy. See what I mean...

I have no words...all I can say is WOW! (Is that a word? If so, then I have one word.)

So I decided that I would ask her to marry me. She had asked me days before my 30th birthday if there was anything that I wanted. I told her at the time that there was nothing that I wanted. That wasn't exactly true...I wanted her...and very badly! So, on my birthday, I asked her to marry me. She said "Yes" and it has been the best gift I have ever been given. In fact, every year on my birthday I am reminded that I married so far over my head that I can hardly see straight. I am more in love with her than I ever thought was possible. And I couldn't be happier!

So, Happy Anniversary Debbie! Thanks for saying yes and making my life truly magical!

Scooter - you're OLD! j/k I only enjoy saying that to you since Nick reminds me all the time that I'm older than he is. Oh and that he's a decade younger than you. I seriously have age issues. :) I'm glad John's Incredible Pizza was fun! Have fun "scooter"ing around the neighborhood.
