Being Organized Sucks!

I was proud to say that I am about 90% done with my Christmas shopping.  Yes, I am.  Go ahead and tell me that you hate me, I don't care.  I'll be sipping my hot chocolate and eating peppermint ice cream while others schlepp through the crowded parking lots and stores.  It's not worth the "deals" for me.  I like peace and order and I can't fight it.

So last night I decided to go one step further and wrap the presents.  Typically this is a task put off to the last minute.  This year I vowed to change that.  I locked myself in my bedroom and went to work.  I made a pile for each of the kids.  I then opened up a small notebook and wrote down what each child was getting.  I was afraid of forgetting what I got each of them and wanted to have something to remind me to curb the craving for last minute shopping.  They are each taken care of and their piles of presents should be about the same size.  All's well in everything needs to be equal world.

I went ahead and wrapped everything up.  They are currently hiding on top of and inside the armoire in Brookie's room.  They will remain there until the night before Christmas to avoid a little girl trying to open them everyday.  It won't even be a temptation for her.

Here's where the sucky part begins.  Megan just came into me with her eyes opened wide.  She said in the sweetest voice, "Is this for THIS Christmas?"  I looked at her confused and then looked down at her hands and there was my notebook.

I was so exhausted after finishing my work, that I just wanted to crawl in bed.  I put the notebook on my dresser and decided I would figure out what to do with it when I woke up.  I forgot.  Megan was playing school in her room.  I knew that.  What I didn't know was that she came across my notebook to use while playing school.

The notebook was opened up to Brooklyn's page.  I about died!  I asked her if she read all the lists and she told me she read everyone's but her's.  Then she said she "may have read her page upside-down, so she doesn't remember it."  I told her she could tell me the truth (after all, how can I be mad at her when it's my dumb fault for leaving the notebook out).  She told me she did read her list, but she doesn't remember it.

And here's the thing, I would have felt better about this whole incident if she had sneaked a peak through the wrapping paper (the way my sister's always did, but I refused because I like a good surprise - plus I'm too much of a rule follower).  But seriously, at least there would have been some element of surprise to see the present instead of reading it.  I'm so bummed!

That's what we get for teaching our kids how to read! Sorry that happened - I would be bummed too. Does this wreck the "Santa" part of Christmas too? I fear that this might be the last year for Curtis. Some of the kids in his class are trying to spoil it.

That makes me feel a little better because I was hating you for being done with Christmas shopping. I guess there's something to not shopping early. Here's to procrastination. j/k

Well, good for you for shopping and wrapping. I always have high expectations, but never pull through. And about the whole list reading - that's a bummer!!!
