A Formal Complaint

Do you remember when I was so excited about getting these:

I was a very happy girl then.  Bigger loads of laundry at one time with less soap required = Win Win.  Finally laundry was done with a smile on my face.  Nice quiet machines.  My clothes were dry in one quick cycle rather than two sometimes three drying cycles.  Life in laundry world couldn't get much better.

And then this started to happen:

My machine started to get stinky.  I mean really stinky!  I would open the door and the smell would knock you out.  It pained me to put my clothes in this stinky machine to get them "clean."  I kept wondering if they were really getting clean when it smelled so muggy and gross.

I tried everything.  I would wipe the inside of the machine down when I was done.  I would leave the door open until it air dried.  I would run it through a sanitary cycle with vinegar.  Nothing touched the stink.

And so I took myself to the scene of the crime (where these beauties were purchased) to try and get some answers.  Scott said that the sales guy mentioned something about a tablet you could buy to put through a cycle to clean the machine (I wouldn't know because I usually spent our visits there chasing three small children around, especially a little boy who thought it was a great place to wonder and look at all the big boy toys).

So I asked around for these magical tablets.  It took a couple tries.  When I explained my problem, the sales woman gave me a confused look as if she'd never heard of this issue.  Another sales man happened to overhear our conversation (sometimes that store has as many sales people as flies at a cookout).  He also gave me the confused look.  I started to think that I was just as crazy.

And then the guy asked me if I was emptying the hose.  The what?!  He said there was a small hose in the front of the machine.  I then gave him the confused look.  He explained to me that the small door on the front of my machine had a little magical hose hiding behind it.  Apparently I'm supposed to empty it after I'm done washing.

So I came home and found that little hose and emptied it.  And I now continue to empty it each day.  The smell is no longer around.  But each time I sit down on the floor to empty the water from my not so cheap machine,  throw the water in the toilet, rinse the cup out, and then place it in its new spot next to the Tide, I can't help but wonder...

There is so much crazy technology these days.  I  not only can use a cell phone to make a call, it can remind me of daily tasks, I can access the internet and order a new shirt off my phone, and also have the phone know exactly where I am even to the point it tells me to turn around when I didn't make the "Left Turn Ahead",

But the engineers at LG couldn't figure out how to get the last 15 ounces of water to drain out of my machine!  They obviously knew this was an issue because they left an easily accessible dainty hose for me to do it for them.

So buyer beware!  There is a long-term commitment with this machine...at least if you don't like your machine smelling stinky.  Those who may find themselves with stinky machines, look and see if you have that important little door too.

Who knew!?! What a rip - I would seriously send a letter. You should ask Kelly if she knew about the magic hose.

O.K. that's just crazy. I have new front loaders too and I don't have that magic door in the front of my machine. I don't get it. I agree with leslie and think you should write a letter. My machines are whirlpool, but I thought they were all under the same umbrella.

I bet the person who put the machine together was training, and once he had it put together and it was working, he noticed there was a hose in the front, where it should be in the back...so he decided to make a door to hide it and he claims, "well thats how its suppose to look...yeah the customer just has to drain it...yeah that will work"

I'm impressed with your skills to add an arrow to the picture. That's high tech. You'll have to teach me these tricks sometime.

I have a dream to buy nice machines like yours. But I can't believe that you have to do that each time you run a load. Note to self - make sure your new washer can empty all of its water by itself!

Wow Debbie I have the same machine and before we left Cali it started to smell up the clothes and it was smelly like you were saying! I didn't know about this magic hose! HA! I guess when we get our own place again I will have to remember your post and empty the magical hose! Thanks for the product info!
