FREE!

On Saturday, I walked in the house after running some errands. Scott's cell phone rang and I answered it for him. It was Sergio. He was calling about the printer.

Just a few hours before, I asked Scott what his plans were with the old printer that had been taking up space in the garage for a couple months. You see space is a hot commodity when you live in a home without a basement. You have to be very creative with your storage. Therefore, an old printer sitting in the garage is making a creative storage room look cluttered. It needed a new home. Enter Sergio.

I pass the phone to Scott to take care of the deal. I over hear Scott say, "Oh, you're a student. Well then it's yours....It's Free." He hung up the phone and looked at me with confusion on my face. I enquired why he was giving Serg such a great deal on a perfectly good printer (and two boxes of toner). He said he looked it up on e-bay and the most he could get is $50. So he listed it on Craigs List for FREE to a student or small business owner. Once again, I see my husband be very generous, while I keep the thoughts to myself that it could have bought a great dinner at CPK. However, I was very skeptical that Sergio was really a "student" and that he wasn't trolling the FREEBIES to make an extra buck or two. I was happily surprised when I opened the door and a young, good looking, clean cut kid was standing there. In my book, he did look like a student. He was very grateful and he even called Scott later that night to tell him thank you.

But a funny thing happened. Do you have any idea how many people are trolling the FREEBIES on a Saturday afternoon? I do...a lot. More than I ever thought. Scott hit the enter key around 3:00. Sergio called just minutes after. While Scott was talking details with our friend Serg, he got a few more calls about it. His phone continued to ring non stop for the next five minutes as he was desperately trying to pull off the listing. He also received about 10 emails about it. I was amazed at what 10 minutes in the FREE section brought.

So I may not have gotten my CPK, but I did get an extra printer out of my garage. And I'll admit, it felt really good putting it in Sergio's arms. I have enough faith to believe that he really was a student in need and he's not eating my Avocado Eggrolls at CPK right now.

That is so great!! It truly shows gratitude on Sergio's part that he would call again to say thank you.
It's like the 80's song, "The best things in life are free..."

I liked that last sentance. It made me laugh. We finally got rid of the old TV we have had sitting in our living room downstairs (cause it was too heavy for Drew to carry, even with my help) It really feels good getting space back that you needed so badly.
