And school is now in session. Although we couldn't start the new year without a special celebration. I was inspired by a truly incredible mother to host a very special back to school dinner. The table was set with our best dishes. Candles were lit. We ate steak, potatoes, corn, bread, salad, and everyone had their favorite drinks (chocolate milk for Meg, apple juice for Josh and Brookie, and DC for mom and dad). And of course we had our guests of honor, Queen Meg and King Josh.
Thanks to a sweet mother who holds on to treasures, Josh is actually wearing a crown once placed on his father's head in high school when he was named Winter Formal King. How cute is that!
We talked about our goals and expectations for the school year. We ate a favorite childhood dessert from the Peterson home and then their father gave them each a sweet blessing.
This little angel bug was so excited to start the school year that she came walking into our bedroom at 6:55 fully dressed and hair done. She had a huge grin on her face and probably would have walked out the door to school if I would have given the okay. Josh on the other hand (who spent EVERY summer morning bouncing on my bed at 6:45 and required a cartoon or two while his mom continued to snooze) decided to sleep in today. How do they know. I actually had to wake him up at 8:20 so we could hurry out the door.
We welcomed Megan home with a new little friend. We sure missed her while she was gone. She's one that doesn't divulge too much info on her own. I had to ask many questions to find out how her day was which were only answered with one word. I've learned that she will give the info when she's ready to. So as we were driving home from soccer practice tonight, out of the blue she says "A rule in our classroom is that if you pick your nose you have to wash your hands." I had to laugh out loud at that. It reminds me of a story from my mom. When my brother was in fifth grade his teacher was a friend of my moms. Each week when my mom would go in to volunteer, the same rule was written on the board in capital letters and underlined several times: NO FARTING! You know it must be bad when a teacher has to come right out and say it. Josh starts preschool on Thursday.

what a wonderful memory you created for your children.
they will always remember their special dinner. I remembe going to
drew's class once a week and believe me that rule was definately needed.
I like the special dinner idea! I love Father's blessings. It was special this year because Ben gave both the boys and Sara blessings.
That is so exciting about Mrs. Jones - she'll be a wonderful mother.
I love that special dinner. How cute! She will always remember that. You are such a good mom.
Megs looks so cute. I love that you wrote her a note saying you missed her while she was gone. Megs talked my ear off the other day on the phone. I couldn't believe it - she's never done that before. She's so cute! And I love Joshie in his crown.
